My Work
25/04/2002
Hovering between dreams of a future Utopia and the cynical resignation to a contemporary dystopia, my work incorporates imagery from personal memories, the creative misreading of signs, questions, NASA astronomy pictures, art-historical references, domestic architecture, advertising, films and comics.
Different strands of my work involve a concern with, and our perception of time, space and the imagination, developing a critique of ethics and cultural mores; meditations on the various functions of the object – our relationship to the inanimate; a play with language and visual symbols to produce rich allegorical possibilities; and most of all, an attempt to evoke the magical effect of imaginative play such as when one is a child in a cinema, swept away by, yet actively producing, art.
