The Site of the Artwork
15/01/1995
The idea of the existence of a work of art being bound up with its site, its placement. “In order to exist (as an artwork) the readymade needs to be excised from its social environment and replaced within a different one – the museum”
How close to the dividing line can a work go? Can one make a non- functional object that appears to have a function, placed within a site away from the museum/ gallery in order to reinvest it with added meaning?
The factors that an artist must consider [when making work] have increased over the last forty years because of the overall shift away from intuition towards thought and conception.
