Neutrality
17/05/1997
Jasper Johns’ idea of neutrality – is this an illusion of neutrality? Can one really be neutral towards objects, towards things which pre-exist in our environment i.e. prefabricated, man-made objects.
A ‘neutral’ stance – what is this? Neutrality implies not taking sides: in essence just as fixed a position as either of the sides ostensibly resisted. ‘Neutrality’ – should actually be the fluidity of a position that isn’t fixed, that is more flowing according to points, to different positions within positions.
